Looking at the relationship between different variables can reveal interesting stories. For example, Provo (Utah) received quite some VC funding last year, ranking fifth after big centers like San Jose, San Francisco, Boulder and Boston. This in comparison to its much lower score for number of patents per capita.

At the opposite end of the spectrum, Corvallis (Oregon), Bremerton (Washington) and Rochester (Minnesota) score really high in terms of patents per 1,000 residents - being all surpassed only by the off-the charts values of San Jose. And this despite having relatively very low scores on 2014 VC funding.
